Posted October 01, 2018 09:14:18Walmart Home and Outlet merchandise in the U.S. increased by $1.6 billion in the first quarter compared to a year ago, reflecting strong demand for products that are built around the Home and the Outdoor lifestyle.
The increase was primarily driven by a strong response to the launch of Walmart Prime, which added new products to existing Walmart stores.
Walmart announced its Walmart Home and Outdoor store expansion plans in January and continued to expand the stores in 2018.
Walmart announced plans to add 200 stores to its existing U.K. footprint and plans to build another 150 stores across the U, U.A.E., Canada, and Mexico.
The Home and outdoor categories saw strong growth in the quarter.
Walmart Home grew by $9.4 million, or 17%, while Home and outdoors grew by 5% and 3%, respectively.
The Walmart Outlet category grew by 8% with a net increase of $5.7 billion in revenue.
Walmart also said it has expanded the retail footprint for all of its stores, including new stores and existing stores, by about 6,300 in the fourth quarter.
In the third quarter, Walmart Home saw the largest increase in sales with a gain of $3.9 billion.
The Home category saw a gain in sales of $2.7 to $17.7B, while the Outlet segment grew by 2.4% to $9B.
The combined sales for all categories of the company’s stores rose by $2 billion.
While Walmart Home was the top seller in the second quarter, it fell from the top in the third to the bottom in the Fourth quarter.
The majority of its revenue was driven by the launch and ongoing launch of Prime.
“Prime continues to be a strong driver for Walmart Home sales,” said Jeff Bercovici, senior vice president of merchandising at Walmart, in a statement.
“Prime is a key reason for the continued growth of the Home category, which includes Home andoutdoor merchandise, as well as the continued strong performance of the Family category, both of which are growing strongly.
Walmart continues to remain the leader in the marketplace, with a total of 1.3 million stores in the United States, and in Canada, we have over 500 stores there.””
The third quarter was a record-breaking quarter for Walmart, and with Prime, we expect to see even more strong growth and continue to grow our overall merchandise business.
